KUROMONTSUKI HAORI

The montsuki haori hakama, Japan’s most formal men’s attire since the Meiji era,
was once reserved for weddings, funerals, and other ceremonies. This traditional
“uramasari” haori is now reimagined as a modern fashion jacket. Its lining artwork,
once crafted by celebrated painters of the past, is designed for this series by leading Japanese artists of 2025.
