Beautiful. Comfortable. Washable.
A haori for the modern age.
This piece is deconstructed from the traditional haori pattern and reconstructed using Western tailoring techniques.
While preserving the dignity inherent in Japanese formal wear, it offers durability and comfort suited to everyday life.
The family crest, a symbol of Japanese formality and heritage, is rendered in three-dimensional embroidery, creating quiet depth and presence.
This collection was created in collaboration with emerging Japanese artists.
Reinterpreting the traditional kuromontsuki haori, each piece features bold contemporary artwork on the back.
All artworks are original creations made exclusively for the “参mile” brand.
Historically, the linings of kuromontsuki haori were adorned with paintings by the leading artists of their time — a hidden aesthetic known as uramasari, the beauty concealed within.
In this series, we inherit that spirit and collaborate with leading Japanese artists of today.
Traditional tailoring merges with contemporary art, gently connecting past and present.
Since the Meiji era, the montsuki haori hakama has represented the highest form of formal menswear in Japan, reserved for ceremonial occasions.
Here, it is redefined as a modern jacket — carrying tradition forward into a new everyday life.
