This happi coat reproduces the breathable texture of sha-tsumugi, a traditional Japanese silk fabric favored in the hot summer months, using a sheer polyester material. Designed for modern life, it is easy to care for and machine washable, making it ideal for everyday wear.
 
The back features the Paulownia crest (kiri-mon), a design historically known as a “tsu-mon” that anyone could use. The motif adds an elegant touch to this lightweight summer garment.

The sheer fabric used in the TRADITIONAL SHEER HAPPI is called Sha-Tsumugi, a type of textile known as "Sha."
Sha is a traditional Japanese fabric often used for summer kimono and obi, valued for its unique transparency and excellent breathability.
Another well-known sheer fabric is "Ro."
While there are various theories, Sha is said to have originated during the Heian period (794–1180).
In classic ukiyo-e prints, elegant women are often depicted wearing black sheer outers with family crests, layered over bright red kimono.
Inspired by such timeless aesthetics, we have revived this traditional design into a modern festival Happi.
