TRADITIONAL SHEER HAPPI – Narrow Obi Included
This happi coat reproduces the breathable texture of sha-tsumugi, a traditional Japanese silk fabric favored in the hot summer months, using a sheer polyester material. Designed for modern life, it is easy to care for and machine washable, making it ideal for everyday wear.

The back features the Paulownia crest (kiri-mon), a design historically known as a “tsu-mon” that anyone could use. The motif adds an elegant touch to this lightweight summer garment.

Printed by: Kyoto – Shirushizome Kobo Sugishita
The traditional Kyoto craft of shirushi-zome has brought color to Japanese daily life since the 14th–16th centuries. This bold yet precise dyeing technique was used to convey information at a glance, as seen in flags bearing family crests, shrine banners, and shop curtains (noren).
Enjoy the lightness and beauty of this happi coat as part of your summer wardrobe.

The hand-painted work is created by Asuka Miyake, the artist behind the hand-painted clothing brand “akka.” After graduating from the Textile Department of Tama Art University, she trained in traditional kimono painting at a Kyoto atelier before establishing her independent practice.
With each brushstroke, she carefully and boldly brings to life motifs of flowers and living creatures.
The patterns she paints carry layered meanings that have been passed down through generations in Japan.
By wearing these motifs, the spirit itself feels uplifted and refined.
With this vision in mind, she continues to devote herself to creating garments that embody both grace and quiet strength.
We invite you to experience the warmth and expressive boldness unique to hand-painted work through this truly special piece.
All of her hand-painted works are washable for everyday wear.
